Building the Microtubule Cytoskeleton
نویسنده
چکیده
The microtubule (MT) cytoskeleton gives cells their shape, organizes the cellular interior, and segregates chromosomes. These functions rely on the precise arrangement of MTs, which is achieved by the coordinated action ofMT-associated proteins (MAPs). We highlight the first andmost important examples of how different MAP activities are combined in vitro to create an ensemble function that exceeds the simple addition of their individual activities, and how theXenopus laevis egg extract system has been utilized as a powerful intermediate between cellular and purified systems to uncover the design principles of selforganized MT networks in the cell.

Immunocytochemical Study on Microtubule Reorganization in HL-60 Leukemia Cells Undergoing Apoptosis
Background: Microtubules (MT) are important components of cell cytoskeleton and play key roles in cell motility mitosis and meiosis. They are also the targets of several anticancer agents which indicating their importance in maintaining cell viability. Microtubular reorganization contributing to apoptotic morphology occurs in normal and neoplastic cells undergoing apoptosis induced by cytotoxic...
متن کاملBuilding the Neuronal Microtubule Cytoskeleton
Microtubules are one of the major cytoskeletal components of neurons, essential for many fundamental cellular and developmental processes, such as neuronal migration, polarity, and differentiation. Microtubules have been regarded as critical structures for stable neuronal morphology because they serve as tracks for long-distance transport, provide dynamic and mechanical functions, and control l...
متن کاملP-121: Assessment of Microtubule and Nuclear Status at Different Intervals of Bovine In Vitro Oocyte Maturation
Background: Mammalian oocyte undergoes a series of structural nuclear modulations during maturation in order to obtain full competence to support fertilization and early embryonic development. Microtubules are major cytoskeleton components and have pivotal modulators for chromosomal movement, and it has been shown that partial or immature spindle organization may compromise correct ploidy of th...
متن کاملP-22: Time Dependent Effect of Post Warming Interval on Microtubule Organization, Meiotic Status, and Parthenogenetic Activation of Vitrified In vitro Matured Sheep Oocytes
Background: It is a common practice to rest vitrified-warmed matured oocytes for 1-3 hours, as a treatment to recover spindle and cytoskeleton, before commencing a further treatment. Vitrified-warmed matured oocytes, however, are very sensitive and may resume meiosis spontaneously during this recommended rest time. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess spindle and chromosome status as ...
متن کاملMicrotubule Components of the Plant Cell Cytoskeleton.
Like the skeleton of any vertebrate animal, the cytoskeleton plays a major role in detennining the three-dimensional form of a cell. However, in plants the cytoskeleton is probably more analogous to a scaffold, being directly involved in the establishment of cell morphology and less involved in the maintenance of cell shape once the relatively rigid cell walls are in place. The term "skeleton" ...
